07:56 pm - Ugh, *cough cough, hack hack*Mrow... can't believe I'm sick. Time to down Nyquil and Dayquil like no one's business. XD
While I'm still obsessed with BJDs, I'm also obsessed with fat acceptance. But I've come to realize that it can be discriminating if one doesn't tread too far from the ideal. The ideal is that we're all born with differenet body shapes, and you shouldn't diet/starve yourself JUST because of what's "accepted" aka skinny can only get you happiness. I've been reading a few sites, and some of them are alarmingly angry and violent. As much as I love the Fat!So? book (it's what started me into this whole thing), I remember a specific letter. A man had been teased, so he learned to fight the teasing with violence. He was incredibly proud that he's been in jail a few times for beating up someone who had made fun of his weight. What's alarming is that the book congrats him and says something along the lines of "this wonderful letter was given to us! Let's celebrate it!" At first, I'll admit, I thought it was a joke. But it wasn't. @___@ And the more I thought about it, the more anarchist it seems. It's telling you to boycott ALL diet places and fitness centers, unless they're fat accepting. It's rallying the cause by telling you to tear down ads that you see, e-mail stores and demand why there isn't more plus sizes, and compliment every fat person you see. It all sound nice and good, but I can't help but wonder how negative it seems. I can understand wanting to take down diet/fitness centers, but sometimes they ARE for your health. The ones that say "LOOSE 25 POUNDS IN ONE WEEK" def isn't a safe place, but there certainly are areas that care about you and the weight you want to loose, if not just to look good but to feel good too. And complimenting every fat person you see? I'm sorry, but I belief most of them will be slightly offended at a comment about their weight, and since negativity is all around concerning weight issues, might even suspect a backhanded comment. The book begins to feel like the last ditch effort, a desperate attempt to love yourself. If you can't loose weight, then forget it! Accept who you are and love it! While I LOVE that mentality (from now on, I don't shy away from mentioning my weight. I'm fuckin' 260 lbs of woman, baby! XD), the book makes it sound kind of desperate at places. Not sayin' it's a bad book! I'm referring to some of the concepts of fat acceptance. I read my friend's journal just today, and she had faved a blog where it was two girls viving for fat acceptance. It started out positive thinking, but then it just got down to bashing the industry as a whole and saying how close-minded skinny people were and HOW DARE you as a fat person even dream of loosing weight!! That's when the line between fat acceptance and close-mindedness is crossed. I'm glad I found those articles and my friend's journal. It's scary to think, but I might've crossed that line. @____@ I'm back now. It's all good. (On the plus side, I'm completely healthy and just now am starting to eat more veggies and viving to work out more, if only to be an awesome fat, healthy person. Because it's kind of sad, a lot of people still think that being sightly overweight is obese and horrible 'cause you'll have diabetes 'n shit! I can understand when you're 500 lbs, but 200+? Uh uh, ain't buyin' it no more. Now if it only wasn't so cold... *brrr*) |
Hm...
